      Hi kittenblueindigoviolet,

So far I havent had a job in another country, but if I end up looking for postdoc positions I would love to go to The Netherlands, France or America. We do get to go on conferences abroad, the latest one we had was in Pottsdam, in Germany. It was really fun, and super interesting!

      Hi
Yes, science is quite good for that because there’s lots of chance to travel and work abroad. I worked in Austria for a year at a pharmaceutical company and we go to lots of conferences abroad. In May I went to a conference in Seattle and my boss asked me to go to California for a week to visit a lab and learn a new experiment which was amazing. Also we have colleagues in Australia so I went to work with them for a week last April!

      Hi!

Yes, I’ve been really lucky in my research and travelled to lots of different places.

I visited America for 6 months in sunny California to do some experiments. It was great because I learnt a lot about how science is done in other countries. I’ve also been to Holland to work with other scientists on a project and visited people with in Belfast, Northern Ireland to talk to them about my work.

Scientists also like to go to things called conferences, where we can meet and talk to other people who do similar science research. I’ve been to America on a conference and am currently in Oxford at the moment for another one.

Hi kittenblueindigoviolet, (I’m going to call you kitten :P)

Yes science is an amazing career if you would like to travel! 😀

I’ve been very lucky with my travelling so far. I’ve lived in Kyoto in Japan for 3 months, I’ve lived in Basel in Switzerland for 3 months, and I’ve lived in Sevilla in Spain for 2 months! (that’s just in the space of 4 years). That also doesn’t include all of the conferecnes you get to go to!

The best part is because science is a global discipline, once you have a degree / PhD you can essentially live in any country you want! I want to continue doing research abroad after my PhD, and am currently looking at going to either Canada, Japan, Spain, Switzerland or Australia for a few years! 🙂 (quite a range of places!)

      Steve
