Hi 975drug49, that’s an excellent question!

So i’ll start by saying that each field of research can be very small… I work in the field of G-quadruplex DNA, and there are probably around 200 scientists on the whole planet working on this very small area!

Personally, I am lucky to have made a reasonable contribution to my area (in my opinion!)… I’m responsible for discovering the most selective molecules ever to bind to the human telomeric G-quadruplex in potassium buffer…. That’s quite a specific claim, but selectivity is a key problem for my field, and I have made some small steps towards further understanding and overcoming it!

We’re in the process of publishing a paper on this, and this hopefully will lead to developing molecules that can inhibit the telomerase enzyme and kill cancer cells!

      Steve
