      Hi,

Interesting question! If I cold cure one disease it would probably have to be malaria.

Malaria is a pretty nasty disease caused by a tiny little single celled organsim called Plasmodium. Plasmodium is spread by mosquitos, where a mosquito mother who is pregnant will bite humans to give their little unborn mosquito baby a nice nutritious drink of human blood.

Mosquitos spread many diseases, and because so many people die from them mosquitos are labelled the ‘biggest killer of humans’ (apart from humans themselves). There are almost 300 million cases and 500,000 deaths a year from malaria alone. 🙁 So Curing that would be awesome and save millions of lives.

      Hi 738drug36,

That’s a really good question! Well I work on anti-cancer drugs, so I’m slightly biased towards cancer but I would actually go with isochaemic heart disease. It remains one of the biggest killers in the developed world, yet research into it is funded a lot less than things such as cancer.

I think that this would do the most good for the most people…
If you want to see some more stats about the biggest causes of death though, see:

      Hi!

That is a really tough question, because there are so many horrible diseases out there. The disease my research looks into is called leishmaniasis and it’s a very nasty tropical disease, caused by parasites. Leishmaniasis kills around 30,000 people each year and infects around 1.3 million people in tropical countries and causes horrible skin infections and can destroy the area around people’s mouths and noses (google it if you’re brave enough to look at some horrible photos!) So obviously it would be lovely to cure that disease. However, I think the disease I’d most like to cure is cancer because it affects so many people across the world and anyone can get it. So many of us will either get cancer ourselves, or know someone with it, so it would be great if some clever scientists could find a cure for all types of cancer.

      Hi Matty,
I would say meningitis B because even there was a vaccine released ,there are still many people that don’t have access to it.
It is a deadly diseace and lately we had many cases of infants and toddlers dying.
