Good question! Well after a bit of research I can tell you that meningitus can be caused by several different things: viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites and even occasionally drugs! Each different cause requires a different treatment. Some can be prevented by vaccination, others can be treated by anti-viral or anti-fungal drugs or antibiotics… So there are plenty of treatments!
The main thing is to get a quick diagnosis, as if untreated bacterial meningitus is almost always fatal. Viral meningitus is less bad though. With treatment, the death rate ranges from 2% to 40% depending on your age and other factors! Scary huh?!!
