      Hi Drugs4Life,

An interesting question. People could do entire PhD’s trying to answer this!

Science is the study of the world around us, and as such seeks to empirically learn about the universe, including how it was formed, and what’s likely to happen to it in the end. This can at times put it at loggerheads with religion…. however the two are not mutually exclusive, and you can get scientists who are also religious! I have several scientist friends who are also religious, from a range of different religions!

That said, I don’t think that religion should be replacing science lessons!

Gosh, what a difficult topic! I’m sure we could spend days talking about this one!

In a debate like this there are no right or wrong answers. For me, science is based on evidence, fact and reason whereas religion is based upon faith, ‘sacredness’ and philosophical reasoning for why the world exists. Neither is better or more ‘correct’ than the other and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

Although science and religion often seem to oppose each other and there can be conflict sometimes, there is no reason why a scientist cannot hold religious beliefs (I have several scientist colleagues that do) or why a religious person shouldn’t study science! I feel that both fields have many parts in common and things to learn from each other.

      What are your thoughts?

      Hannah
